Improving Monitoring Through Pulse Oximetry

Access to essential monitoring equipment is a cornerstone of safe anaesthesia practice. Our association has supported the deployment and use of pulse oximeters in approximately 89% of hospitals in Burundi, improving the early detection of hypoxia and other life-threatening complications. This initiative has strengthened perioperative and critical care monitoring, particularly in resource-limited settings, and continues to contribute to safer anaesthesia services nationwide

Safe and High-Quality Clinical Care

Within ABPCAAR, Clinical Practice is centered on delivering safe, high-quality anaesthesia and critical care services across healthcare settings. We promote best clinical practices that prioritize patient safety, ethical care, and clinical excellence throughout the perioperative and critical care continuum.

Standardized Protocols and Best Practices

To improve consistency and quality of care, our association supports the implementation of standardized clinical protocols in anaesthesia and critical care. These protocols guide healthcare providers in patient assessment, monitoring, airway management, pain control, and emergency response, helping to reduce preventable complications and improve clinical outcomes

WHO Surgical Safety Checklist Implementation

Patient safety is further strengthened through the promotion and use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. This tool enhances communication and teamwork among surgical, anaesthesia, and nursing teams, ensuring that critical safety steps are followed before, during, and after surgical procedures. Its use contributes significantly to reducing surgical errors and improving patient outcomes.
